Just when you thought high fashion couldn't get any
stranger, designers are trying to resurrect the "man heel."
Known affectionately in fashion circles as the "meel," the
sky high shoes first made an appearance during the
glam-rock days of the early 1980s. But today's shoe
aficionados are marketing the meel to a whole new
demographic and not just the vertically challenged. Whether
platform, stacked heel or wedge, the not so masculine meels
are being hyped as a "lift" for even normally height ed men
with a flair for fashion. "It will be interesting to see if
this catches on," says New York City trend watcher Tabitha
Easton. "And actually, I think it might do well in urban
areas where style trumps practicality." (Sun) |
