Nice to Meet You

If you haven’t yet heard, I’m Twylla West, and brand new to Lite92.

If you have heard, you may know that I’ve stepped into the Land of Radio from the nearby World of Television. After about six years at Global Regina, I resigned my position as Weather Specialist to join Greg Morgan on Lite92 Mornings.

Yes, mornings. Early mornings.

But you know what? It’s not that bad. It’s even kind of fun, when stop thinking about the time.

So, why did I move to this fun though early new job? The short answer is that I did it for my family.

The longer answer is that while I loved my job at Global, I wasn’t seeing my husband, Gordon, until the weekends. And while the evening work schedule did allow me to savour my mornings with my almost two-year-old son Henry, one day he’ll start school, and I won’t have much time to see him until the weekend either. Now we’ll be able to do as a family all those things I remember from my childhood growing up in Regina.

I am a Regina native. I was born and raised here; went to school at St. Gregory Elementary School, and then O’Neill High School (Go Titans!). I was a Brownie, Girl Guide and Pathfinder, and spent summer at Regina Beach, taking swimming lessons and boating. After high school, I went to college at SAIT in Calgary, then worked in radio and TV in Medicine Hat for three years before moving back home. Ironically, the job that brought me back home had just been vacated by none other than Greg Morgan, my new co-worker.

And so here I am. Learning to wake up early, speak up and directly into the very large mic, and getting to know Greg better than I ever thought possible. So what do YOU think? What can I do to make your morning radio listening better? I live to serve. Or work to serve, or some other clever saying. Comment, pretty please?

Here’s something you don’t see everyday… a whale crashing onto a boat. It happened in South Africa. You can see the whale do a series of leaps and splashes as it gets closer to the yacht. Then it leaps again when it’s right next to the boat …lands on top of it….and smashes the mast down. Click here to see the video

Whoopi Goldberg sure wasn’t acting like her usual self yesterday on the View. She had trouble talking and was acting really weird. Whoopi admitted to still being under the influence of drugs she had taken for flying. The actress has a fear of flying and has to be drugged whenever she has to fly, and she had just flown back for the show yesterday. Here’s the video…. personally I don’t know why the producers didn’t just keep her off the show yesterday, they must have known she was still on something before they went to air. What do you think????

A scary thing happened to singer Pink during her concert in Nuremberg, Germany last night. A harness which pulls her into the air for her stage stunts malfunctioned and dragged her into a metal barrier. Pink was forced to cut the concert short and was taken in ambulance to a nearby hospital. She’s a little sore, but luckily no major injuries.

Do you hate having to stop for bathroom breaks while travelling….. A Colorado family has the perfect solution

It took 4 years for Dave Hersch to perfect his design. It features a 6.5hp motor capable of driving 30mph and holds six toilet rolls and a magazine rack too, and yes the toilets do work. Don’t know that I would want to go to the bathroom in public like that though, but I can see where it would come in handy.

Here is a video that has been seen by almost 4 million people. It’s a video of a double rainbow in Yosemitebear Mountain park. People have been watching the video not to see the double rainbow… they want to hear Paul Vasquez’s reaction in the video. You’ll have to watch the video to see what I am talking about, he sounds like he’s high but when interviewed about his reaction he insists he wasn’t smoking anything. Those who know Paul say his reaction is genuine as he loves everything about that park. Here’s the video. G & L

Kudo’s to the people who made this happen…

This is just one of the road signs that have been put up to honor our Rider legends. Signs featuring George Reed, Ron Lancaster, and Ray Elgaard have been put up on each of three highways entering Regina. Each sign represents the amount of yardage each player has thrown, kicked, rushed, or caught back to Mosaic Stadium. A 4th sign featuring Dave Ridgeway is being put up on Highway 39 southeast of Milestone. The signs are part of the Riders Centennial celebrations. Pretty amazing to actually see the distance in total first hand… I’ve driven Ray Elgaards and am hoping to drive George Reed’s next. Lisa

Yikes!!! Jon Bon Jovi hurt his leg during a concert in New Jersey Friday night, but that didn’t stop him from bringing down the house while performing “Livin’ on a prayer.” His publicist says Jon tore a calf muscle, and quickly added that won’t affect the July 28th show in Regina. Here’s the video of Jon performing while injured.
