The Material Girl turns 50!

September 16, 2008 – 2:12 pm
Can you believe it, Madonna is offically 50 years old? I personally can't. To me she will always be seen as this amazing icon of the 80's. You know lace gloves, fishnets, and crucificts. I guess that's because I'm a kid that grew up in the 80's and watched her grow and change her ever evolving looks. But now even though it's been a long career for her she still somehow remains looking incredibly young and fantastic! It's amazing that she has such staying power over the years, and so much so that at the ripe old age of 50 she is heading back on the road yet again for the "Sticky & Sweet" world tour. To be honest I'm a bigger fan of her older music, (yeah that 80's stuff!) but would give anything to still be able to see her live. I think she will forever be a musical icon ...

Being a Savy Student

August 21, 2008 – 11:16 am
Heading to school this fall, or living on your own for the first time? It can really have a vast effect on your savings! Try these quick and easy tips for living on less – and saving more – and watch your bank account grow. • Cut out daily coffee and fast food runs. One of the fastest ways to burn through cash is by splurging on these unnecessary treats, so cut back on the number you indulge in per week to save. TIP: You don’t have to give these luxuries up completely. Hooked on coffee shop java? Remember, Starbucks, Second Cup, Tim Hortons, Timothy’s and other coffee houses all sell coffee you can make at home. • Skip pricey salons that can set you back upward of $50 per haircut. Instead, look for a local beauty school that offers cuts (or highlights, facials or manicures/pedicures) by students or professionals demonstrating techniques. ...

Pick Up Lines???

August 6, 2008 – 2:32 pm
"Do you believe in love at first sight -- or should I walk by again?" Maybe you haven't heard that one before, but if you're female and have a pulse, chances are you've been subjected to a pick-up line (or five) sometime during your lifetime. It's a curious phenomenon, the icebreaker, although if it's executed poorly or by the wrong person, much embarrassment ensues. For example, I'd hate to be the guy who offered this line: "If you were a nose, I'd pick you to be mine." Here’s a couple of my favorites…… "I just realized this, but you look a lot like my next girlfriend (boyfriend)." "If I could rearrange the alphabet, I'd put 'U' and 'I' together." "If beauty were time, you'd be an eternity." "Hi, I'm Mr. Right. Someone said you were looking for me." "I'm the one responsible for all those crop circles in England." "Here I ...

Having a bad day? Try this!!

June 3, 2008 – 5:57 pm
Feeling anxious? Reach for the kettle and make yourself a cup of tea. Drinking plain old black tea reduces overall stress responses while promoting relaxation, according to a study by the University College London. The magic ingredient in tea is a super-nutrient called theanine that blocks the action of excitatory nerve transmitters. Sounds serious I know! but it really works...even if you aren't a regular tea drinker!! Marilyn
